Friend: Hello?
Caller: Hey. How are you.
Friend: Good. How are you doing?
Caller: I'm not going to lie. Things are tough right now.
Friend: How so?
Caller: Well....so you remember me telling you about the roads?
Friend: Sure.
Caller: They haven't been as bad. If I look long enough they seem to hold for a few minutes. Still, tough getting around.
Friend: Uh huh.
Caller: The reason I am calling is...see....I've managed to get to this lake. And it is nice because I, well...because I can get back there. I can find it again, like the room I found to sleep in.
Friend: Yeah?
Caller: Yeah. It was nice at first. I would go and sit there for...well I'm not sure, but it seemed like awhile. If...If my watch hadn't broken I could...but look, so this lake. It's nice.
Friend: The lake?
Caller: Yes, the lake. That is what I'm telling you. I mean, it was nice at first. I was hoping someone might come by...but nobody has as of yet.
Friend: Still nobody?
Caller: Yeah. I can feel people around me in this city, or I should. Like it is supposed to be a very busy place, or is, or once was. And the carriages. I've told you about those right?
Friend: Sure. Carriages.
Caller: Right, the carriages. I can hear carriages, hear the wood creaking. The wheels rolling on the paved stone. I can even hear the horses breathing. But I can never just...they never seem to....but I've told you about this before. I'm sure I have.
Friend: Yeah...I remember.
Caller: Let me get back to this lake, and this problem. See, there is this giant house, mansion, castle.....something, on the other side.
Friend: A castle?
Caller: I don't know. Maybe, sure. Look, it's really big but that's not what is important. See, the lights are all on inside. I can see them all the way across the lake.
Friend: Lights huh?
Caller: Yeah. I think they are having a party. Or a celebration. It feels important. Real important. I've tried to get there....I...I don't know. The lake is worse than the roads.
Friend: Worse?
Caller: Yeah! I swear I've walked around the whole goddamned lake a hundred times. That house...it is....there is something going on there. I can even hear music, I think it's music, come floating across the water. I mean, it doesn't exactly make sense...but it is familiar all the same.
Friend: Sure, right.
Caller: Hey, are you even listening to me?
Friend: What? Oh, yeah of course.
Caller: Seriously, this is really important. I'm trying to tell you...
Friend: Just jump in.
Caller: What? Do you mean the lake?
Friend: As the mists part and the leviathan rumbles, I dream of men with false faces. A menagerie of sins spiral through the waters and laps at the shores of sleep.
